Recall-1 Description, Consequence, and Remedy

This recall announced on April 27, 2006 affected around 404,733 units. Some of the pickup trucks experienced eternal loss of functioning of brake lamps or these lamps are turned on always.

In both the above cases, the problem is with Center High-Mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL). This may also affect the cruise control if equipped.

In such a case, a driver who is following will not know when to apply the brakes and this may in turn lead to a rear end collision without any warning.

Dealers were notified to handle this problem and change the brake lamp switch assembly of the affected vehicles. This recall started on December 5, 2006.

Recall-2 Description, Consequence, and Remedy

This recall that was announced on July 29, 2009 affected around 185,903 units. These vehicles had a brake lamp switch that did not function as designed because of switch contamination.

Such a problem can lead to simultaneous failure of all brake lamps, which in turn can lead to unexpected vehicle crash.
